Diary

Week 1 18-19 December 2014

I had started my work placement with Hugh J. O'Boyle Training and got to familiarize myself more with the business environment and know more about the company. I had started off by completing database work in the IT room for my supervisor. The database consisted of files from shared:S listed with the name, subject, topic, level and were attached to it individually. This was a lengthy task and I had completed a large portion of it in the two days that I had started.

Week 2 8-9 January 2015

After the Christmas holidays, I had got back into my work placement and continued with the database and entered more files into it. I had also tidied the room and put all the files into the storage cabinet for them to be used next week.

Week 3 15-16 January 2015

I installed a new operating system onto an old PC which had corrupted software and needed a new OS to be installed. With my experience of using Linux and Linux-based software, I installed Mint OS using a bootable pen drive created by my supervisor. I spent some time after making sure that all the important and relevant software was installed (e.g. Word processor, anti-virus, browser etc).

Week 4 22-23 January 2015

I had talked to one of the company directors (Francis Tumelty) about giving a better variety of tasks to complete in the workplace as I was finding the database work to be tedious. I needed a different variety of jobs to do to keep myself motivated towards completing tasks for my units. I was tasked with completing a re-design of the old company organisational chart. This is the new chart that I had created using the tabling properties of MS Powerpoint

Week 5 6-8 May 2015

This week, Francis (Company Director) told me that I would eventually be moved into a new placement as I was only able to come to a placement at O'Boyle's for a certain length of time. I have not been told where I will do my placement next, but I am told to wait a few weeks before I am moved to my new placement.

Week 6 13-15 May 2015

I had completed finance documents for O'Boyle's in the Finance Department. I had completed them by filling in all the relevant information about students onto the sheets (one sheet per student). I also created a Level 1 & Level 2 unit grid for the Business Administration Students with MS Word.

Week 7 20-22 May 2015

I had created youth review forms for all students in the month of June. I had done this task in the Finance Department for Meme Swail (O'Boyle's Finance Officer). I had printed an appropriate number of copies of the original document (60 copies) and written down all the names of each student on a course at Hugh J. O'Boyle Training. My supervisor had sent me 3 links via e-mail to websites for me to write up onto a publisher document. I tagged each of the publisher documents to the Teaching Resources spreadsheet located in shared:S/Bus...Sol.../Tutor Files. They are listed with their web-links, name, subject type, topic, drive location and drawer location (Bus Sol room).

Week 8 27-29 May 2015

I had put the weekly claim forms from the students into their corresponding files for the Finance Department. I had put them in order of the newer forms placed at the top of the "Attendance" section of their files. I had made photocopies of 2 sheets (1 copy per sheet) and given them to the Finance Officers. I was also tasked with creating a publisher document with information from a website and to link it to the Teaching Resources spreadsheet.

Week 9 03-05 June 2015

I had put the weekly claim forms into the student files for that week for the Finance Department. I had also laminated some company posters for Lisa Dobbin (Receptionist) and put them up onto the wall.
